My Dog: An Unconditional Love Story

What were your thoughts from the documentary we watched on Tuesday? Did you hear any ideas about humans and their pets that had come up before in any of our readings? Did anything new come up?

Please post your thoughts in the comments for this post.

  1. i felt that the story mainly had people that were lonely or that had a disibility. A part of their lives were missing or they were missing something so they bought a dog to keep them company.

  2. It showed a whole lot of different cases where having a pet was a very important complement to their lives, independentely of their occupations. However, as one of our classmates pointed out the last time, they were all pretty much in a good income situation. It can vary in a different socio economical environment.

  3. I liked the case of the family who had an autistic kid (i think). Because it seemed to help the kid develop his communication skills or at least to be a bit more open when it came to talk about pets...

  4. the documentary was very touching it showed how much the oweners love and respect their pets. but the best part for me was to see how can a pet change someones life, like in the case of that autistic kid that even learn the alphabet by remembering the dogs name.

  5. I liked how the documentary took an interesting take on the relationship between human and pet between different groups of people.

I also liked the guitar used in the song. I didn't like the song so much, just the guitar.

  6. One new thing that came up was about the agility competitions that one of the athletes registered his dogs in. It shows that the athlete wants his dogs to be living the same lifestyle of competitions. In my opinion it seems as if he was trying to see himself in his dogs lives like in the story "Then There Was You" by Anne Roiphe and stating the quote about her cat by saying "my four-legged shadow".

  7. Notice the replacement again of humans by pets..the gay couple..rather had pets well maintain than adopt a child in need...

  8. In the documentary every dog owner that we saw had some type of love and interest for their dog, but they all were rich and popular so i thought that maybe if the documentary showed other type of people like average human beings that are not happy and rich then maybe it would make everything more realistic.

  9. The main idea of the video was similar to the previous readings because their owners shows how pets have the ability of filling the emptiness that their have in their lives. In many cases, pets can bring out memories of some family members or help their owners to overcome really difficult moments in their lives for example, recovering from serious illness like cancer.
